Do I Need HVAC Repairs?

If it seems your heat pump isn’t working properly, perform a few common checks before calling a professional.

  • Breaker Box: The circuit breaker to your HVAC may have been tripped, cutting off power to the unit. In your home’s circuit breaker panel, check to see if a heat pump circuit breaker is in the “off” position. If so, switch it to “on.”
  • Thermostat: Make sure your home’s thermostat is both receiving power and has not been switched from your desired setting. Replace the thermostat if malfunctioning is evident, such as the temperature gauge not reading properly.
  • Vents: Check registers to make sure air is blowing out. A lack of air flow could indicate clogged ducts.
  • Air Filter: Evaluate the filter in your HVAC system’s air return. If excessive dust is present or clogging is visible, replace the filter.
  • Outside Fan: Check to see if your outside heat pump’s fan is running. Make sure sticks or other debris aren’t preventing the blades from turning.
  • Check Coils: Visually inspect the outside coil for any yard debris or trash. If needed, remove debris with a soft brush.

If all the above failed to fix the problem, it’s time for Starnes to step in.
